Last night I discovered something amazing that I must share with you. Thai Sabai. I had my first ever Thai Massage, and I'm completely hooked.
Traditional Thai Massage combines gentle yoga like stretching with massage of the muscles, tendons, pressure points, and meridians. It is literally, AH-MAZING.
Not your typical "spa" massage experience. Thai Massage is done on a mat instead of a table to allow the practitioner to get the body leverage necessary for the stretches and postures used in Thai Massage. Thai Massage technique may also employ the elbows, knees, and feet in addition to the hands. Don't be surprised if you look up to find your masseuse walking all over your back, thighs and legs.
Thai Sabai is not for the bashful, there are no private rooms for the massage sessions. You are brought into one large room that is divided into massage areas or "rooms" that are separated by linen curtains. It is imperative to be as quiet as possible and to only speak at a whisper to allow for a tranquil and relaxing experience. As I was led to my individual area, and my linen curtains were drawn, I entered an area with a padded mat on the floor, and traditional Thai garments to be worn during the massage were laid out in front of me. I changed out of my clothes and put on my new "outfit". Long shorts and a halter top that tied around my neck and my back. So far so good. I must admit it was interesting to wear, but when in Rome...
The prices are reasonable, $45 for an hour of bliss. Run don't walk lovies. You'll be glad you did.
